Feature Details
To help with GDPR compliance, certain visitors need to provide consent for Terminus Chat to process and store their information. If your team chats with website visitors in the EU, we recommend leveraging these features.
This article explains how Terminus Chat Administrators can enable these features to collect consent from website visitors before starting a chat conversation.
How to Enable GDPR Consent Pages
You can turn on GDPR Consent pages within your Chat Themes. The process to enable GDPR Consent pages is identical for both Link themes and Website Chat themes.
Step 1
When creating your theme, toggle on the GDPR Compliance Pages in the top left corner under “Privacy”. Notice that two new pages appear at the top of the screen. You can click on each of these pages to modify them.
When the GDPR Compliance Page toggle is set to “On”, the Privacy Policy toggle will always be on.
Step 2
In the Privacy section, update the Privacy Policy URL with your company’s Privacy Policy.
Step 3
Navigate to the first consent page. Partner with the appropriate people in your organization to update the messaging on the first consent page. The default text is intended to serve as an example.
Note: The header on this page will inherit the style of your main chat page.
Step 4 (Optional)
Adjust the Frame Height to best fit the messaging if necessary.
Step 5 (Optional)
By clicking on one of the “Ok, I Agree” or “No, Not Now” buttons, you can modify their appearance and message.
Step 6
Navigate to the second consent page and update the messaging. This page will be presented if the visitor clicks on “No, Not Now” on the first consent page.
Note: This page will inherit the style of the first consent page.
Step 7 (Optional)
You can update the messaging of the “I’ve changed my mind!” button. When a visitor clicks on this button, they will be redirected to the first consent page and given another opportunity to opt-in.
Step 8
Save your theme. Remember the theme name (found in the bottom left corner).
Step 9
On the Links & Website chat page, apply this theme to the respective Website Chat / Link.
Once a theme with GDPR pages is applied to your Link or Website Chat, the consent forms will automatically be presented to all EU visitors.
Who will be presented with the GDPR Consent pages?
Based on the visitor’s IP address, we will determine if they are in a country included in the list below:
- Belgium
- Bulgaria
- Czechia
- Denmark
- Germany
- Estonia
- Ireland
- Greece
- Spain
- France
- Croatia
- Italy
- Cyprus
- Latvia
- Lithuania
- Luxembourg
- Hungary
- Malta
- Netherlands
- Austria
- Poland
- Portugal
- Romania
- Slovenia
- Slovakia
- Finland
- Sweden
- Great Britain
If the visitor is in one of these countries (and you have turned on GDPR Compliance in your Chat Theme), Terminus Chat will present the GDPR Consent pages. EU visitors must provide consent before a chat conversation is started.
If the visitor is not in one of these countries, they will not receive the consent pages.
