Prerequisites
This article will provide instructions on net-new installations of the Terminus Insights managed package as well as upgrading existing installations of the Terminus Insights managed package. Customers with existing versions lower than 1.14 will need to upgrade to the latest package version to access the newly available components noted below and requires re-authentication with your Data Studio instance.
For more information on this feature, check out these quick links:
Overview
The Terminus Insights managed package allows customers to access Terminus advertising metrics, website activity, intent signals, and other important account-level intelligence in one central and powerful location: Salesforce CRM. Depending on your subscription plan, the package will include the Terminus Engagements page layout view, custom Salesforce reports, and/or the Account Insights view.
Terminus Engagements (Metrics on the Account Page Layout)
Terminus Reports & Dashboard (Customizable Account Reporting)
Account Insights (iframe on the Account object)
At any time during the installation and setup process, you can submit a ticket through the Terminus Support Portal, or grant Terminus login access to troubleshoot any unexpected issues.
Enabling Terminus Insights for Salesforce CRM
1. Connecting Your Salesforce CRM
You'll need to re-authenticate your Data Studio connection to enable Terminus to write new attributes to your CRM. This applies for upgrades to 1.14 as well. Follow the steps below to connect:
- Either clear your browser's cache/cookies or open an incognito browser window. This ensures that you and the API Integration User are both logged out of the CRM system.
- Log in to https://home.terminusplatform.com/ using your username and password.
- Navigate to Data Studio.
- Copy/Paste the following link into the address bar: https://studio.terminusplatform.com/onboarding (Please do not open a new tab to do this.)
- Follow the integration instructions on the screen to connect with your organization's CRM instance. When the Salesforce-hosted login page appears, make sure to use the API Integration User's credentials instead of your own.
If you experience any issues connecting, please go to the Terminus Support Portal and submit a ticket.
2. Verify Visitor ID Tracking Script
With the Visitor ID tracking script installed, you are able to view website engagement, including page views, form fills, video plays, and specific page interactions, for visiting accounts directly in your Salesforce CRM. Once the tag is installed, you can check to make sure it is running by using the developer tools in Google Chrome or Firefox.
- On a PC, you can either press F12 or go to Settings > More Tools > Developer Tools. Click on "Network", then in the filter section, type "wec-assets". If you see the code load on the site, it indicates that it was implemented correctly.
- On a MAC, you can click on "View" from the menu bar at the top left section. Hover over "Developer" and select "Developer Tools". Click on "Network", then in the filter section, type "wec-assets". If you see the code load on the site, it indicates that it was implemented correctly. Alternatively, you can right-click on the browser screen and select "Inspect" > "Network".
- When the script fires in your browser, you should see the following cookies (named jwt_cookie):
- "s-9da4" is a session cookie, and "d-a8e6" is a device ID cookie. If you delete or block them, you will lose Visitor ID tracking for visitors.
- Similar to other tracking scripts, you can choose to prevent the VID code from firing off if the user declines the cookie policy/agreement. Additionally, if visitors have Do Not Track Headers (DNT), we will not track them.
To verify that the script is running via your Tag Manager, follow these steps:
- Open Developer Tools (Right click + Inspect, or Settings > Developer Tools)
- Click on "Sources"
- Look for your Tag Manager URL and click on it
- Find your Tag Manager Container and click on it
- Search for "wec-assets"
- Verify that the Terminus script was installed on the correct container
If you do not see the tracking script, it's possible that it has not been installed correctly. You can follow these instructions to implement it for your website or contact your webmaster and submit a ticket through the Terminus Support Portal.
3. Turn on Data Feed
Once you have connected your Salesforce CRM to Data Studio, you will need to submit a ticket through the Terminus Support Portal to request the new Salesforce pushback service to be enabled for your account — see sample request below. This applies for upgrades to 1.14 as well.
Upgrading/Installing the Terminus Insights Managed Package
Estimated Time to Completion: 30-60 minutes.
- Access the Terminus Insights Package via the "Get it Now" link in AppExchance and click “Install”.
-
The prompt will ask you which profiles you wish to install this package for. As a Managed Package, you can select any of the options. You can also select the “View Components” button at the bottom if you wish to view all components involved in this installation.
Recommended: Since we do not currently add any Apex workflows or triggers, we recommend that if you install this for an “Admin only”, you have a plan to eventually make this Generally Available for your organization.
- Once you have selected your option, Salesforce will send you an email alerting you that the installation is complete. You can also verify the package has been installed by going to Setup -> Installed Packages. You should see “Terminus Marketing” installed with version 1.14.
Note: Once the package is installed, please verify that the Salesforce user used to authenticate Salesforce within your Data Studio instance has been granted a license to the package. The user also needs permission to update the Account object in Salesforce. If you are not sure what user was used to authenticate Terminus Data Studio in your org, you can check this by following these steps.
- Navigate to Setup at the top right inside Salesforce
- On the left hand pane click into the "Quick Find / Search", paste in "Connected Apps OAuth Usage"
- Click "Connected Apps OAuth Usage", on this page you should see a connected app called "MyTerminus"
- To the right of this you should see a column with "user count", please click this underlined number and a user name will be displayed
- Back in the quick find, search for "Installed Packages" and navigate to "Terminus Marketing" package
- Click "Manage Licenses" next to the package
- Click "Add Users" and add a license for the user identified in Step 4
Adding Terminus Engagement Fields to Layout
-
To add the new Terminus Engagements fields to your Account Layout, go to Setup > Object Manager > Account. From there, select “Page Layouts,” and select the Account Layout you want to add Salesforce Fields to. Salesforce gives you “Account Layout” by default, but our fields can exist on multiple different variations of layouts that you create.
Recommended: These fields are available to all users of your Salesforce. It’s our recommendation that you do not “protect” these behind permission sets or other roles without careful consideration.
-
Once on your Account Layout, add a new section called “Terminus Metrics,” and make it two columns wide. The installed package should have all fields available for you. We recommend that the fields you display follow a layout similar to this (See table and example below):

After you have connected to Data Studio, verified your Visitor ID tracking pixel is on your website, and had Salesforce pushback enabled by Terminus Support, the Terminus Metrics data will begin populating within 24 hours. Data will be updated in Salesforce on a daily basis, except for Engagement Spike and Intent data, which currently refreshes on a weekly basis.
Data Fields, Types & Descriptions
Last Pushback Date
This is date that identifies when we last pushed data into Salesforce for that account. This date will only update when new data becomes available and is updated on the account record in the CRM. If the date is in the past, it indicates that no changes have occurred for any Terminus Metrics on that account since that date.

Engagement Spike
Engagement Spike surfaces CRM accounts with spiking engagement on your most valuable web content. Marketers set up engagement models based on High-Value pages and Awareness pages. Spikes then track anonymous web data at an account level and will alert you weekly when an account is spiking.
Terminus Engagement Spike allows you to compare the web activity of the same account week over week, averaging each week’s engagement data over a continual rolling 4-week baseline resulting in a percentage lift as we show for the spike percentage. Engagement Spike reports generate weekly, on Saturdays, for their respective Engagement Models. Therefore, these fields will also update weekly in Salesforce, if there is any Engagement Spike data for that account.
Within the Terminus Engagements view, you will be able to see the following Engagement Spike fields. This data can be leveraged in CRM reporting or to trigger other marketing channels and better align your sales and marketing activities.
Field Label | Data Type | Description | API Name |
Last Spike Date | Date | This is the date of the most recent engagement spike period. This will update on Sunday for each account that has a new spike for the previous week. | terminus_mktg__LastSpike__c |
Spike Percent | Percent | This metric represents the engagement spike percentage lift, which is determined by comparing activity over a rolling 4-week period. A higher percentage suggests increased activity compared to the previous 4-week baseline. | terminus_mktg__SpikePercent__c |
Spike Heat | Formula | This is a visual representation of Spike. The three peppers (and no peppers) represent four buckets that accounts can fall into. A very high spike is 3 peppers, a medium to high spike is 2, and a medium-low spike is 1 pepper. In relation to the Spike Percentage field, empty or 0% = 0 pepper, ≤100% = 1 pepper, ≤250% = 2 peppers, >250% = 3 peppers. | terminus_mktg__SpikeHeat__c |
Spike Status | Text | The status of the most recent spike — New vs. Repeat. A new spike indicated this account has either never spiked before or hasn't spiked within this current 4-week rolling period. A repeat spike indicates the account had spiked at least once during the 4-week rolling period and is spiking again. | terminus_mktg__SpikeStatus__c |
Engaging On | Long Text Area | This indicates the Engagement Models on which an account is experiencing spikes. If an account is spiking on pages associated with multiple models, model names will appear as separate values delimited with a semicolon. | terminus_mktg__EngagingOnModels__c |
Most Visited Awareness Pages | Long Text Area | This field indicates which awareness web pages, as defined by the marketer (ex. blog posts), are most frequently visited during the 1-week spiking period set by the Last Spike Date. | terminus_mktg__MostVisitedAwarenessPages__c |
Most Visited High-Value Pages | Long Text Area | This field indicates which high-value web pages, as defined by the marketer (ex. case studies or webinars), are most frequently visited during the 1-week spiking period set by the Last Spike Date. | terminus_mktg__MostVisitedHighValuePages__c |
Site Engagements
Terminus's Visitor ID web tracking technology turns your anonymous website visitors into named accounts, allowing you to see how your account-based programs are driving meaningful engagement on your website. With the Visitor ID tracking script installed on your website, you will be able to view website engagement, including page views, form fills, video plays, and specific page interactions, for visiting accounts in your CRM. Visitor ID data generates daily in the Ad Experiences interface. Therefore, these fields will also update daily in Salesforce, if there is new Visitor ID data available for that account.
Within the Terminus Engagements view, you will be able to see the following Site Engagement fields. This data can be leveraged in CRM reporting or to trigger other marketing channels and better align your sales and marketing activities.

Display Advertising Metrics
Terminus' account based advertising allows marketers to engage with best-fit accounts across the entire internet. Audience Sources (COMING SOON)
Terminus supports two types of audience sources — Account Lists and Segments. Account Lists are static, named groups of targeted accounts. Segments are groups of targeted accounts that are dynamically included or excluded based on changes in source data and rule criteria.
In the Terminus platform, both audience sources can be used to coordinate and prioritize your target accounts by analyzing their marketing, sales, and web activity, along with key firmographics. The key difference between them is that one produces a static list of accounts, while the other produces a dynamic list of accounts. Account List and Segment membership data updates daily in the Data Studio interface. Therefore, these fields will also update daily in Salesforce if there are changes in audience membership for that account.
Within the Terminus Engagements view, you will be able to see the active Account Lists or Segments the account is currently in. This data can be leveraged in CRM reporting or to trigger other marketing channels and better align your sales and marketing activities.

Deprecated Fields
As of managed package version 1.14 and beyond, the following fields have been deprecated from the managed package. While the component is still selectable within the package configuration, these fields should not be included in any layouts or reports. Moving forward, any fields that are no longer supported will include '(DEPRECATED)' in the field label to avoid confusion. Permission Sets Available in the Package
The Terminus Insights Package comes with 3 permission sets upon installation. O-Auth User, Terminus Insights, and Terminus Engagements. The permission sets allow users assigned to them to have the most access relevant to their role.
Permissions Available:
- Terminus Engagements:This permission set is the default assigned to all users of the package. This allows users to see the fields that are added to Account Layouts for reporting on the Terminus Engagement data pushed back to Salesforce. Users with this permission set will not be able to access our Account Insights functionality.
- Terminus Insights: This permission set allows users to see the i-Frame of Terminus Account Insights, as well as the Terminus Engagement Fields. Users with this permission set will be able to interact with all installed elements of the package and will require “Activate” as a part of their Terminus package.
- Terminus O-Auth User: This user has the ability to see all elements of the package without any type of restrictions. This permission set is by default granted to the O-Auth user. Our recommendation is that this permission is not granted to non-Salesforce Admins.

Frequently Asked Questions - Account Insights
Can I test the Account Insights package in a sandbox environment?
Since Terminus Data Studio is connected to your production instance of SFDC, we will not be able to return data to your sandbox environment. As a result, installing & testing the Account Insights package in a sandbox environment is currently not supported.
Do my Salesforce users also need Terminus Data Studio login credentials to access?
- No, users will have access to the Account Insights data as long as they: are logged into Salesforce, and have access to the Account layout containing the Visualforce page
Is the data shown in real-time?
- The opportunities, contacts, sales activities, and marketing activities shown in the Account Insights are updated daily and are not real-time
- VID anonymous page views, engagement spikes, and Bombora Intent surges are calculated weekly (Sunday night) and are not real-time
Where does the data come from?
- See the data mapping section for details (see below)
Can I use custom anonymous website visit data or intent data?
- We exclusively leverage the data integrated in Data Studio, and do not support custom activities (e.g. Google Analytics website data, third party intent data, non-Terminus distributed Bombora intent data)
Why are some of my sales activities (i.e. tasks) missing?
- The Account Insights feature will only show activities that are created by whitelisted user roles, with whitelisted task types. To check which tasks will show, navigate to the User>Pages & Features>Sales Activities
- Changes made in this page will take a data refresh (1 day) to reflect
What happens when there’s no data returned?
Example #1: Application loads, because there’s no data for the account
- No marketing activities within the last 90 days
- No sales activities within the last 90 days
- No anonymous website visits (VID) within the last 90 days
- No anonymous engagement spikes within the last 90 days
- No Bombora Intent Surges within the last 90 days
- No new leads or contacts created within the last 90 days
Example #2: Application does not load because it cannot authenticate:
- Contact support through the Terminus Support Portal to help further troubleshoot
Example #3: Cannot access Engagement Spike or Bombora Intent data
-
Contact your CSM to help further troubleshoot or purchase
- Note: The message "Contact your Terminus Customer Success Manager to Enable Engagement Spikes" can still be present if a user has Engagement Spikes enabled, but Terminus has not yet recognized any spiking accounts. The message will remain on the Account Insights page until at least one account has spiked on any Engagement Models.
Why is the Visualforce page not loading?
- In Salesforce, some ad-blockers will block *.brightfunnel.com* and prevent the iframe from loading. We recommend that ad-block users whitelist our domain
