Prerequisites
This feature is available to customers whose subscription includes Terminus Data Studio and have Segment Builder enabled.
What are Global Filters?
Global filters are a powerful feature within the Terminus platform that allows users to segment and prioritize data across the platform. Global filters can be applied to your instance of Data Studio, as well as most reports in Measurement Studio, to better understand the impact of your marketing and sales activities across key business segments.
Global filters are grouped into seven categories: Account List, Account, People, Campaign, Opportunity, Terminus and Segments.
- Account List: This data is based on lists you create and manage directly in Data Studio.
- Account: This data is based on fields from your CRM account object.
- People: This data is based on fields from your CRM lead and contact object.
- Campaign: This data is based on fields from your CRM or marketing automation campaign object.
- Opportunity: This data is based on fields from your CRM opportunity object.
- Terminus: This data is our firmographic and digital engagement data populated by Terminus.
- Segments: This data is based on segments you create and manage directly in Data Studio.
Utilizing Segments in Global Filters
Due to the dynamic nature of Segments, where accounts can enter and exit based on specific rule criteria, their usage within Global Filters differs somewhat from that of a static account list. As we continue to integrate Segments into Measurement Studio, it's important to note that certain labels within our ABM Scorecard may reference Account Lists instead of Segments. Additionally, dates such as the Membership Date displayed in the scorecard will be determined by the date you created your Account List, rather than the actual date an account entered the segment.
Rest assured that this information will be made accessible for both Measurement Studio and Data Studio in specific segmentation reports in the near future.
Date Cohorts
When you apply a date cohort while a segment has been selected in the Global Filters, the displayed accounts will be filtered to include only those that were part of the segment during the selected timeframe. This feature ensures that you can see all historical accounts that met the criteria within a specific time period, as well as current accounts that still meet the segment's rule criteria.
-
To access a comprehensive list of accounts that have ever been a part of the segment and are currently in the segment, it is recommended to select the "All-Time" option in the Account Hub. This should be done in conjunction with choosing the desired segment in the Global Filter.
-
For an up-to-date list of accounts that are presently eligible for the segment, you should opt for the "Custom Range" option and select the current day's date for both the start and end dates in the Account Hub. This should be done in conjunction with choosing the desired segment in the Global Filter.
- To view a segment for a specific date, such as the start of a quarter, you should select the "Custom Range" option in the Account Hub and choose that specific date for both the start and end dates. This should be done in conjunction with choosing the desired segment in the Global Filter.
- If you choose a date range that encompasses both historical dates and the current date (for example, "Week to Date"), the segment will display both historical and current accounts accordingly. This should be done in conjunction with selecting the desired segment in the Global Filter.
Refining Global Filter Criteria
There is no restriction on the number of filtering criteria that can be chosen alongside Segments within the Global Filter panel. However, it's important to note that the greater the number of criteria you select, the narrower your results will become within the Account Hub or Measurement Studio reports. This might lead to a situation where the list of accounts no longer accurately reflects your original segmented accounts.
Download a .CSV of Segmented Accounts
Just as you can today with Account Lists, you can also download a list of accounts currently or historically within a segment (using Date Cohorts). After selecting your preferred date cohort and refining your filter criteria, click the "Download CSV" button at the top right corner of the listed Accounts.
Upon completion of the download, the .CSV will contain the Account IDs and any visible or selected data columns from the account table.
Measurement Studio Reports
Segments can be applied in a similar manner to Account Lists and other Global Filter criteria on all supported Measurement Studio reports. However, there are specific nuances to consider when working with the ABM Scorecard, which we've outlined below:
ABM Scorecard
The Terminus ABM Scorecard in Measurement Studio was initially designed for use with Account Lists. With the recent launch of our Segment Builder, we are actively working on seamlessly integrating Segments into both the Measurement Studio and ABM Scorecard user experience.
During this transitional period, users can effectively utilize segments within their ABM Scorecard through either of the following two methods:
-
Import a Segment-Based Account List:
- Start in the Account Hub and select your segment in the Global Filter panel.
- Apply the "All Time" date cohort, then export the Account List CSV file.
- After your CSV file has downloaded, click the "Manage Lists..." button, then the import list icon.
-
You can either create a new list or modify an existing list by selecting the appropriate radio button.
-
To Create a New List:
- Select the appropriate folder.
- Name your new account list.
- Choose the file and click the Upload button.
-
To Modify an Existing List:
- Select the appropriate folder.
- Choose your existing list from the dropdown.
- Determine whether to Merge, Replace, or Delete the account list data.
- Choose the file and click the Upload button.
-
To Create a New List:
-
Once your Account List is saved, go to Measurement Studio and click the "Add Account List" button on the ABM Scorecard.
- Create a name for your Scorecard Account List.
- Select the Folder and Account List from the drop downs.
- Optionally, you can add Opportunity criteria such as Opportunity Types, Product Lines, and Amount Threshold to exclude opportunities that don't meet a certain threshold.
-
Click the "Save and Close" button. Now your Segment accounts are available for viewing on your ABM Scorecard.
Note: If you are leveraging any dynamic rule criteria, you'll want to refresh this list by following the above steps to modify an existing list before viewing your ABM Scorecard.
-
Import an All Accounts Account List:
- Start in the Account Hub and apply no filtering criteria in the Global Filter panel.
- Apply the "All Time" date cohort, then export the Account List CSV file.
- After your CSV file has downloaded, click the "Manage Lists..." button, then the import list icon.
-
You can either create a new list or modify an existing list by selecting the appropriate radio button.
